Polarization aberrations. 1. Rotationally symmetric optical systems.

چکیده
The polarization in isotropic radially symmetric lens and mirror systems in the paraxial approximation is examined. Polarized aberrations are variations in the phase, amplitude, and polarization state of the electromagnetic field across the exit pupil. Some are dependent on the incident polarization state and some are not. Expressions through fourth order for phase, amplitude, linear diattenuation, and linear retardance aberrations are derived in terms of the chief and marginal ray angles of incidence and the Taylor series expansion coefficients of the Fresnel equations for reflection and transmission at uncoated and thin-film-coated interfaces. Applications to polarization ray tracing are discussed.

Low-cost space-varying FIR filter architecture for computational imaging systems
Recent research demonstrates the advantage of designing electro-optical imaging systems by jointly optimizing the optical and digital subsystems. The optical systems designed using this joint approach intentionally introduce large and often space-varying optical aberrations that produce blurry optical images. Digital sharpening restores reduced contrast due to these intentional optical aberrati...
متن کاملCorrection of Aberrations—Past, Present and Future
The performance of static rotationally symmetric electron lenses is limited by unavoidable chromatic and spherical aberrations. In 1936, Scherzer demonstrated that the integrands of the integral expressions for the coefficients of these aberrations can be written as a sum of positive quadratic terms [1]. Hence these coefficients can never change sign. This important result is called the Scherze...
متن کاملA lens correction algorithm based on the see-saw diagram to correct Seidel aberrations employing aspheric surfaces
In this paper a lens correction algorithm based on the see-saw diagram developed by Burch [1 is described. The see-saw diagram describes the image correction in rotationally symmetric systems over a finite field of view by means of aspherics surfaces. The algorithm is applied to the design of some basic telescopic configurations such as the classical Cassegrain telescope, the Dall-Kirkham teles...
متن کاملOn the Wigner distribution moments of rotationally symmetric, partially coherent light
The Wigner distribution of rotationally symmetric partially coherent light is considered and the constraints for its moments are derived. While all odd– order moments vanish, these constraints lead to a drastic reduction in the number of parameters that we need to describe all even–order moments: whereas in general we have (N + 1)(N + 2)(N + 3)/6 different moments of order N , this number reduc...
متن کاملOptical Design of Laser Beam Shaping Systems
An overview of the history and current practices of laser beam shaping is presented. When diffraction effects are not important, geometrical methods for laser beam shaping (ray tracing, conservation of energy within a bundle of rays, and the constant optical path length condition) can be used to determine system configurations, including aspheric elements and spherical-surface GRIN lenses, whic...
